A Journey of Transformation

Dr. Dwight Faught’s career has undergone an extraordinary transformation—from earning his first bachelor’s degree in Communication Arts to dedicating his life to the service of others through healthcare and psychiatry. Every chapter of his journey reflects resilience, empathy, and a deep desire to help people overcome life’s unexpected challenges.

His path toward psychiatry began unexpectedly following a serious motor vehicle accident. While recovering in the ICU, he found himself connecting deeply with other patients who had also endured life-changing trauma. Those conversations sparked something profound in him—a desire to understand suffering and help others navigate their own healing. This defining experience led him down the pathway to resilience that now defines both his philosophy and practice.

Early Experience in Psychiatry

Dr. Faught’s first professional step into mental health was as a psychiatric technician at a state hospital in Virginia. He worked with adult male forensic patients—individuals navigating both mental illness and the criminal justice system. This experience taught him empathy, patience, and the importance of seeing each person as more than their diagnosis or circumstance.

He soon became one of the first non-licensed individuals trained to administer medications to patients, and his fascination with the science of medicine grew. He realized that nursing would allow him to work with both medical and psychiatric conditions, empowering him to help people in crisis from multiple angles.

Academic and Clinical Excellence

After earning his Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Dr. Faught began his career in the Intensive Care Unit—the same environment where his own healing began. Over the next several decades, he completed his Master’s degree in Psychiatric Nursing, a Post-Master’s Certification as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, and ultimately his Doctorate in Psychiatric Nursing (DNP).

Dr. Faught’s work has spanned medical and psychiatric units across multiple healthcare settings. In every role, he found one consistent truth: each patient has a story that deserves to be heard. His approach centers on compassion, dignity, and active listening—values that continue to guide his telehealth psychiatric practice in Arizona today.

Educator, Researcher, and Author

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Faught has served as an educator at James Madison University, the University of Virginia, and Virginia Commonwealth University, where he precepted doctoral students and helped shape future generations of psychiatric nurses.

He also contributed to published research and participated in the National Institute for the Clinical Application of Behavioral Medicine, one of the pioneering organizations in Mind-Body Medicine and Psychoneuroimmunology. His research and writing helped develop new approaches to teaching psychiatric nursing, emphasizing that you cannot treat the body without considering the mind—and vice versa.

Global Perspective and Compassionate Care

Dr. Faught’s travels to Russia, Ukraine, Greece, and beyond gave him a firsthand understanding of how culture, environment, and access to care shape mental health. These experiences deepened his respect for diversity and reinforced his belief in compassionate, individualized care.

Today, through telehealth psychiatry in Phoenix and across Arizona, Dr. Faught provides accessible, patient-centered treatment for adults facing anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, mood disorders, and more.
